Fear. Fear is
a four-letter word with a whole lot of power. Fear can keep you in a job you hate, a relationship you don’t want, or keep you from doing what you really want to do. We usually find other excuses to explain our fears, but at the end of the day it is still fear.
Someone might hate their job, but afraid that if they quit they won’t find anything else and be able to pay their bills and take care of their family. Someone else might be unhappy in a relationship, but fear that they will never find anyone else to love them, so they stay. Another person might have a great idea, but fear that they will fail so they never try to execute it. Fear can trap us into a life that we are unhappy living…which is absolutely no way to live. Once you let go of all your fears, it allows you to create a life that you could at one point only dream of.
What would you do if you went to the doctor and they told you that you only had one year left to live? How would you spend that year knowing that every day is one day less that you have? Some people might spend the whole year sulking. Wasting every day that they have left being sad because they only have so long. Others would decide to go out and live their best life because they know that time is precious. Either way, knowing that you only have a little time left, would you be happy living the life that you are living right now, or would you make changes?
We might have more than a year to live (or not…no one knows), but every day we get closer and closer to the end of our life cycle, so we should already be living every day like it’s our last. It might be a somewhat morbid thought, but if you died right now would you feel like you’ve lived the life that you’ve always wanted, or would you question how differently your life might have been if you would have gone after what you truly wanted?
We have got to start replacing that fear with faith in ourselves. Faith that no matter what, we can make it through and do anything we want. It is possible. Sometimes when things are tough for me, I think back on things that I have dealt with and how I got through them. I think about how trapped I might have felt at the time but look back with fondness at my strength to overcome whatever it was. That is my strength and motivator to know that I can make it through anything, no matter how bad it may seem at that very moment.
I say that to say this, have faith in yourself. Go after whatever it is you want out of life with no fears. Have faith that if you go for what you want and aim for true inner happiness, that everything will work out. Have faith in yourself that no matter what might be thrown at you, you can overcome it like you have done with so many other situations in life.
Life is not about working a 9-5 until you retire. Life is for living and anything that is stopping you from living a life of true bliss needs to be removed. Job, family members, relationships…if it does not bring you happiness and move you closer to living your dream life, REMOVE IT! Don’t let fear stop you from taking the necessary steps to live your life to its fullest potential.
As the old saying goes, live every day like it is your last and one day you’ll be right.
